| Part Five - Action Setup |
|
I gave the aluminum action rail a thorough cleaning with Fantastik (the Rhodes wonder cleaner!)
![]() Then I set it in the case and carefully aligned all of the bolt holes. If the action rail is not perfectly aligned and all the bolts installed just right, then the hammers and damper may not exactly match the position of the keys and you will have a heck of a time getting the whole piano the play correctly.
![]() ![]() The next step was to re-install the hammer modules and the damper bars. This turned out to be a real pain. Once you have removed the little fabric connecting strips from the dampers, it become tedious and frustrating to re-attach them after the hammers have been bolted to the action rail. And if you try to attach them first then do all the bolting, they tend to fall off from all the movement. I didn't discover a foolproof answer to the problem. Just try and try again.
![]() Notice that after adjusting the key height and the action rail, the hammers form a much smoother line than they had originally. Yet another problem that cured itself after properly setting up the keyboard action.
![]() The finishing touch to the keyboard action was re-attching the damper release bar to the action rail and brushing down the whole piano one last time.
![]() You might notice that in the above picture I got two of the damper sets out of order. I caught the mistake and swapped them so they move from the shortest at the treble end to the longest at the bass end.
Next we move on to the Harp Assembly!
