Discovering Ms. Keating by accident (way too convoluted to go into here), I shudder at how close I came to never hearing her at all. Fate has been kind. Though, I long ago lost my objectivity when she came on stage at Ernie's Club Twang in front of a large gathering of disinterested Poi Dog [Pondering] fans (who were fantastic by the way - you shoulda been there) and fearlessly began playing her songs. (Happy ending though, a lot of 'em Poi Dog fans stayed and fell for her too!). Mining musical territory not unlike the world pop of Kate Bush or say a Shawn Colvin, Ms. Vicky's lyrics offer a keen and sharp viewpoint on matters of the heart as well as the metaphysical world. Her voice, a strong soprano filled with vulnerability and strength, sings melodies that smother you like a sensuous caress of an ocean breeze. Vicky Pratt Keating is a major new find. Come see her when she comes to town in November and see an artist so fresh and talented that words fail to convey just how great she is.
